Review of The Music Man (1962) by Matt J — 24 Apr 2008
God bless Warner Bros and Robert Preston.
This is another fine example of stage-to-screen adaptation.
Pretty much flatout perfect!
Robert Preston IS Harold Hill. There's no one else who can bring charm to this role so effectively.
Shirley Jones is excellent as Marian. These two are one of the finest onscreen couples in cinema history.
The music is catchy, the plot hilarious and just a complete knockout performance.
I've tried to get rid of this DVD, only to find myself with memories of my days as a lowly Vianney freshman with that Ice Cream Coat and the Barbershop Quartet part engrained in my brain.
I love it!
Pitch perfect!
