Review of The Mummy (2017) by Niels D — 19 Aug 2017
I'm not quite sure what happened here. How could Team Cruise come up with such a bad version of The Mummy and such a disappointing start to Universal's Monsterverse? The ingredients for a great movie were available: Beautiful cinematography, a fresh take on The Mummy (a female on this time), jaw-dropping stunts and action scenes, an impressive cast, ... But somehow, when blending it all together, it ended up a bit "meh": a rather incoherent string of scenes, some more pointless than others, and overall a clumsy setup for the next movies.
I also didn't care for Cruise's take on the film's protagonist... It's like he wasn't really feeling it. Probably the weak jokes didn't help either ;-).
