Review of The Mummy (2017) by Harry R — 08 Nov 2017
The plane scene towards the start of the film was stunning and the visuals throughout were amazing, however other scenes like the underwater scene were awfully carried out and shot. The characters lacked depth and I only felt emotionally attached to one character, however the acting from Tom cruise and Sofia Boutella was stellar and helped carry the film.
Russel Crowe?s character showed promise and made me excited to see what they would do with the character but was underused and kind of pointless, other than to set up dark universe. Also the ending of the film was shallow and lazy, leaving it unclear what had actually happened and clearly setting up sequels.
The dialogue throughout the film was awful and a huge weakness of the film as it made the characters less compelling. I enjoyed this film, however preferred the original mummy and the mummy returns from Brendan Frasier.
The trailer for the movie left my expectations very low and when I saw it I felt pleasantly surprised.
