Review of The Mummy (1959) by Kevin G — 16 Feb 2010
A classic monster movie in way, shape and form. Terence Fisher's usual minimalistic but impactful camerawork is present and both Cushing and Lee give good performances, but I felt that original "hammer twist" was missing from the story, if you know what I mean.
The pacing seems a little off as well. Some of the best things about Hammer movies, specially the ones directed by Fisher, are the great steady pace they have and how straight to the point they are, but here it seems they're stretching a very thin plot for all it's worth, striving to hit the 90 minutes running time.
A very fun movie with great moments, but it could be better.
