Review of The Mummy (1959) by Sol H — 28 Sep 2013
Easily the best version of 'The Mummy'. The original is a boring and failed attempt at romance, the current day franchise is Roland Emerich/Michael Bay-esque tosh. This has what I want from a mummy film, a mummy walking around killing people and looking all creepy. I'm a man of simple tastes. Unfortunately, there's not actually very much of the mummy walking around, killing people and looking creepy. When the mumm's on screen, it's a good bit of entertainment, when it isn't, the film drags a bit. Either way, it's passable 50s pulp horror.
Personal enjoyment: 6/10.
Acrual quality as a film: 6/10.
