Review of The Monster (2016) by Josh N — 29 Nov 2016
Slow and atmospheric, while dodging the cliche ending one might expect, The Monster is a film that cautions us to take heed of our words and actions, and teaches some hard truths along the way; sometimes, the monsters are real, and they are hungry. Life can hit you hard and terrifyingly unexpected ways. And sometimes all we can do is deal with the aftermath and try to go on.
(Side note: I loved the slow build, the examination of the regret between mother and daughter, seeing how strained their relationship had become and how they were trying to fix it. Also loved the creature design; nothing super fantastical, almost practical enough to be believable. ).
