Review of The Mist (2007) by Gregg M — 29 Sep 2012
This movie was 90% to 95% great, well done, so true to the novel, thought I was going to love this movie and it would be one of my favorites. I loved the novella by Stephen King and have read it quite a few times, so when I head Frank Darabont was directing the movie, I thought great the movie will be perfect, and it was.
..until the last 10minutes or so and then it went the way of the dodo. It ruined the movie for me and I was greatly, greatly disappointed. Maybe it was the ending King had hinted at in the book, it does ring true to Kings style and sense of irony, which I greatly appreciate and have no complaints about, but it's not the same ending as the book.
And it pissed me off and , like I said ruined the movie. I do recommend this movie, just disregard the last 10minutes and you'll be happy. Castiing was excellent and Marcia Gay Harden was amazing in her role as the local bible beater turned zealot.
I think it truly conveyed how the group mind can be a terrible thing in times of unimaginable distress and loss of the creature comforts we are used to. Of course its fantasy horror but we can become animals under the wrong types of pressure.
