Review of The Mist (2007) by Parker F — 24 May 2018
What I like about this film is that it not only provides horror from outside the supermarket, but it also provides a deadly environment inside the supermarket by having more and more people turn to Mrs.
Carmody out of desperation. The movie maintains a claustrophobic atmosphere both because of the monsters and the actions of the characters. I think what Darabont wants to show us is the hazardous effects an apocalypse has on the human condition.
I like it when horror movies create tension more so by the actions of the characters than the threat pursuing them. In addition to that, I also thought several of the monster scenes were quite unnerving such as the tentacle attack and the pharmacy scene.
Its ending is going to divide a lot of people, but I love it as I find it to be one of the most powerful movie endings. It's a shame this movie doesn't get more attention though as it deserves it.
