Review of The Mist (2007) by Luke C — 25 Apr 2012
I am a bit odd because this would probably rank as my favourite film of all time. This is because it touches on a whole range of emotions and situations that an ordinary person can relate to and can really escape in its very dark tone.
It shows the viewer how humanity and reason can slowly crumble under duress and how people can change when in strange situations. At first this film started very run of the mill horror with little to spark but soon became a very character driven tale that sucks the viewer into the scene and immerses you into it's experience.
The acting is very flawless showing all the devastation and deterioration of the human spirit. It mainly focuses on courage and how people's opinions are vulnerable under very stressful and alien situations.
Although I have not read the book and do not know how faithful it is, but I once read that even Stephen King was shocked at the ending. And that is the part of the film that really makes it so worthwhile, it truly packs an unexpected punch to the gut scene that will definitely shock and silence the viewer in sheer amazement.
Overall it packs the chill factor and creates a very volatile atmosphere that will be sure to captivate the viewer; it portrays human emotions so well and it ends with a big bang.
