Review of The Mission (1986) by Millo T — 20 Aug 2011
Of course, everybody is going to underline the great Ennio Morricone sountrack, and also the great actings from de Niro and Jeremy Irons (I surprised when I discovered a very young LIam Nesson). But, away from that, I would like to underline the significance of the historical moment they talk about, with the conflicts between the Church, the Indians and the European kingdoms, and the influence that Jesuits had in all these events.
It also underlines the power of decision of men symbolized in Irons (the peace, and God), and de Niro (the fight, and human problems). Slow but consistent and even quiet rhythm, moved all the time by the music from Morricone.
