Review of The Messenger (2009) by Stephen S — 06 Jun 2010
Really really enjoyed this film. I felt invested and interested in the characters right from the get go. Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson were outstanding in their roles. I leaned toward Foster a little bit more because I really enjoy characters that seem hardened, tough and rough hewn on the outside but actually have an empathetic heart beating deep within.
The supporting cast was good as well. Really enjoyed seeing Steve Buscemi once again. Didn't realize how much I missed him until he made his appearance about a quarter of the way into the film. Script was tight and well written with direction solid yet subtle and controlled.
Two dedicated yet scarred (emotionally AND physically) soldiers doing their best to do a difficult, thankless job. I salute you and this marvelous film...
