Review of The Manchurian Candidate (1962) by Jack W — 07 Jul 2009
Before Kennedy, Watergate and the many political scandals that seemingly plague us every day this film had to be shocking as any ever to be released. The story is riveting and intense and deals with many subtextual issues to the era.
The editing done is the film is striking and there are moments in which the cinematography and shot composition are superb. On the other hand there are also moments where Frankenheimer lingers to long in set positions and the acting is often wooden and robotic, but then again Sinatra is the star.
still, much better than the 2004 version and a tremendous film when placed in era specificity.
