Review of The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) by Ross T — 29 Aug 2008
Excellent, scathing and shocking. To see this come out of 1955 is a real eye-opener. Even the somewhat dodgy performances from the rest of the cast are forgiven in that they seem like characters straight of the streets of 50s New York, asked to be themselves on film. Frank is fantastic and could easily have been as successful on film as we was as a singer, if he had put his mind to it and gone for meaty roles.
The beatnik score is also great.
