Review of The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) by Joe L — 31 Dec 2009
Mostly noteworthy for a harrowing scene in which frank sinatra suffers from heroin withdrawal. takes billy wilder's 'the lost weekend's' honest exploration of alcoholism and applies it to actual hard drugs.
only hitchcock knew how to use kim novak's inherent blandness. it's an acting showcase oscar-bait film from the golden age that save for frank's commitment to the role, didn't strike me as memorable in any other way.
landed him a nomination, but not the golden guy.
