Review of The Man Who Would Be King (1975) by Kimberly B — 09 Sep 2009
First, an admission -- we watched only about half of this movie. This rating is based on that half and the fact that neither one of us wanted to watch the rest of it. How good can a movie be if the first half fails to interest the viewer enough to keep watching to the end?
Maybe the problem is that it's very dated: white actors trying to play "natives" with distracting and unsuccessful results; stereotypes galore; rather silly dialogue. The scenery is lovely, and I wonder where it was filmed. On location?
Maybe things get better later, but I have my doubts. I was lured by the 4-star ratings into giving this a try. Don't get tricked, too! Or else keep your expectations very low & you won't be disappointed.
