Review of The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by Dan B — 01 Apr 2008
Beautifully realised existential film noir, held together by an impressive (and impassive) central performance from Billy Bob Thornton. Fine supporting cast too, with Tony Shalhoub's defence lawyer nearly stealing the show.
The Coen Brothers curb some of their natural excesses and deliver a gripping and thoughtful movie that easily transcends genre homage or pastiche. Recommended.
