Review of The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) by Yves S — 01 Jan 2010
The 50's and 60's ha been busy with Sci fi, and by the 1970's it was moving into the realms of space adventure, The Man Who Fell to Earth is very much a 60's movies in the 70's. It highly influenced by psychedelia and has the king of weird himself "David Bowie" staring in it.
the story is interesting, an intelligent Alien comes to our planet in order to save his own, but gets pulled into the pot holes of our culture. Its a slow mover some times to much attention is paid to getting an interesting shot, than telling the story.
at the time Bowie wasn't much of an actor, although he did create a certain Extraterrestrial vibe. its an interesting idea but somehow doesn't quite leave the impact you would hope.
