Review of The Man from Nowhere (2010) by Muntasim T — 02 May 2011
A movie like only Koreans could make it, fast paced and brutal actioner with tugs at the heart string. This is Koreaâ??s answer to Hollywood and French films like â??Man on Fireâ??, â??Takenâ??, and â??The Professionalâ??, and it does not come up short in any way.
Won Bin makes superbly expressed portrayal of the silent but deadly stranger who would stop at nothing to redeem his humanity by rescuing the one vulnerable person who treated him as a friend and someone to depend on.
The action sequences are reminiscent of the â??Bourneâ?? films minus the hand held shakiness of camera work. The violence and brutality is astonishing even by Korean standards, and it has the heart that is sometimes lacking in the action movies of Rodriguez (basking in stylized violence and self congratulatory cleverness, but nothing more).
Highly enjoyable for action thriller fans.
