Review of The Man from Nowhere (2010) by Jason R — 07 Jan 2016
Cha Tae-Sik is a wonderful character with a dark past. Won Bin (Autumn in My Heart, Korean Drama) is the actor I believe carries this film in the same direction of all similar films like Luc Besson's "The Professional", and the late Tony Scott's "Man on Fire".
Actors like Denzel Washington and Jean Reno didn't go through circles on their rampage that dealt greatly in their tragic characters, but this film takes us through all the feels, and doesn't let us forget the cold and dark world it portrays.
Director Jeong-beom Lee (Cruel Winter Blues) makes great strides with subtle action scenes that are still wonky, BUT SO FUCKING FUN! I think Won Bin is the best part, and you don't need to go crazy for him, all the other characters in this crime drama are great.
The cops aren't incompetent and the bad guys are not pushovers. We may may want to save the young girl, but sometimes the protagonist has to save himself.
