Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Edward B — 27 Jan 2010
Bogart is such a fucking class act throughout Falcon that I expected a daft ending where he flies to the moon to live on a mansion with the girl and jewel encrusted bird in tow. Needless to say the ending was my favourite aspect of the film, his responses already dictated by the death of his partner.
It is joyful to watch all of the characters get caught in the maelstrom of fortune and glory whilst Bogart's cool detective has his angle set, and sticks to it in cold style at the end. The dialogue remains razor sharp throughout, a superb script.
