Review of The Maltese Falcon (1941) by Ross M — 23 Jan 2011
Huston's Noir masterpiece is a greatly filmed, written and acted gem, more priceless than the eponymous Falcon itself. The young director's eye for frame composition is faultless and every scene looks absolutely goregous.
Bogart's screen presence is captivating in his breakthrough role, amongst a sterling cast including Peter Lorre, whose character is both darkly funny and largely sinister. Unforgettable.
