Review of The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) by Mitchell M — 16 Nov 2007
For an under-90 minute film whose studio butchered the director's 120+ minute original vision, it is still a brilliant, sad drama that follows up well to the giant of "Citizen Kane." Welles again uses his original, inventive directorial style (his uses of angles and tracking shots are astounding), and makes great use of the period (the birth of the "autoMObile") to flavor to the story.
Well worth watching - and research on the postproduction definitely helps.
