Baroque in style and tone, stifling as life and yet, it erupts on screen. There's something about Welles, there's something about him. He could be a despot and you would still love to be a part of his new, indulgent spectacle.
There's something about him and one goes back to the seminal Pauline Kael book to find out. She's something too. Some people are just meant to live longer than life.
