Review of The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) by Joshua H — 26 Feb 2010
I went into this wanting to love it. Why not? I can imagine that I had the same feeling many had in 1942. I am about to watch the follow-up movie by the genius that made what is widely considered the best movie ever ( Orson Welles, Citizen Kane). It has a fine cast and was shot well. But watching this made me feel the same as I did while watching other movies that get spoon-fed to us as top tier motion pictures ( ie Treasure of Sierra Madre). I know its unfair to compare any movie to Citizen Kane, but this compares poorly to many contemporary films.
If this movie is offered to you, it could be worth your while. Hey, its only an 88 minutes. But save yourself the yawns and re-rent Kane.
