Review of The Magician (1958) by Eric R — 01 Nov 2010
A film about a magician and his troupe of illusionists whom come accross a small swedish village where they are confronted, because the townsfolk don't believe in the existence of magic. The film analyzes the skepticism of faith bearing individuals and their refusal and need to try and justify anything they don't understand.
Its an interesting study of science vs faith, and in the end its interesting but still a lesser Bergman. It features almost all the regulars, and as expected it features some beautiful black and white cinematography but it just never really grabbed my attention like Bergman's better films.
