It looks great and Bale's performance is pretty remarkable (although whether going to such lengths for a film that was never going to be a classic is a tad strange). The problem is by the time we get to the big reveal, we've worked out most of it, you're not that bothered either way anymore and it doesn't all exactly hang together.
