Review of The Lovely Bones (2009) by Julian H — 27 Aug 2015
I didn't realise their was a book until after watching the film, so this may explain the disparity between reviewers, as fans of the book were clearly disappointed. Regardless, I found this a beautiful film about letting go.
The plot doesn't necessarily go in the direction you want it to, but what they created here was so much better, if you embrace it. A grown man, I was reduced to tears. Don't expect some blockbuster genius plot with a masterful ending, what is presented to the viewer is very simple.
Therefore it would be very easy to find fault with this film, and I suspect many viewers will be expecting more. Technically this was a cinematographers dream, complimented by superb acting was on the mark.
The young leading actress was casted perfectly, as a viewer you feel much of the heart wrenching pain that the family experiences. All of this takes place on the backdrop of difficult subject matter, pulling that off alone deserves a top accolade.
