Review of The Loved One (1965) by Wayne D — 20 Mar 2008
I've never heard John Waters mention this film, but it's begging, demanding to be one of his favourites (up there with Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and BOOM!). Where to start? It's black, very black, weird and great, set in an LA funeral home, based on a novel by Evelyn Waugh, features Liberace, Roddy McDowell, Jonathan Winters and many more.
It's crazy and Mrs Joyboys could have been in Pink Flamingos. See it trash-a-holics (oh and the DVD looks spectacular, much better than the full frame print they run on TCM).
