Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Priscilla E — 22 Jan 2008
A moving and provoking film from the genuis that is Wilder. This film is way aheads of its time and features an outstanding performance from Ray Milland (think jimmy stewart crossed with cary grant) who really carries the film as the torured alcoholic writer who finally comes through.
Wyman good in this too as his ever-optimistic and loyal girlfriend and loving the Bacall-like character of Gloiria ("don't be ridic"). Shows poignantly and terrifyingly what an addiction can do to an intelligent man.
