Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Doug C — 12 Sep 2009
A great dramatic noir spotlighting alcoholism to win 4 Academy Awards in 1945. Ray Milland plays a hopeless alcoholic and Jane Wyman his devoted girlfriend who tries tirelessly to pull him out of the gutter.
Both deliver great acting, and although the film's slightly dated it's still a good drama and a great film on alcoholism that manages to foreground a social issue without too heavily moralizing.
