Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Tim J — 28 Jun 2010
A very mature film for 1945. As a study of addiction it is as thorough, uncompromising and ultimately as moving as Leaving Las Vegas - made 50 years later. Of course the language and sexuality are very mild by comparison, as you would expect.
Seeing this and The Best Years of Our Lives, you begin to see that some serious work was produced here and there by the big studios.
