Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Jenna I — 21 Feb 2016
I love these older films that just totally buck all conventions and can tell a story that defies generation. Such a real portrait of alcoholism; I loved how this movie used such strong visuals of the haunting quality of addiction- from the dancing coats on stage to the smiling and terrifying nurse to the mouse and bat battle.
This film felt porto-Twilight Zone in a lot of ways, the theremin soundtrack didn't hurt either. Brilliant performance by Ray Milland and Jane Wyman.
