Review of The Lost Weekend (1945) by Steve S — 09 Feb 2010
**** (out of four).
The 1945 winner for Best Picture at the Academy Awards is a realistic and unflinching look at a man and his addiction to alcohol.
Ray Milland plays Don, a writer in New York. He lives with his brother, who tries to keep his brother from drinking. One night Don convinces his brother to take his girlfriend out. While they are gone Don steals the maids money and goes on a binge.
One of the firts films to realistically deal with social issues.
