Review of The Lost City of Z (2017) by Corey H — 12 Jul 2017
Those expecting a film filled with lighthearted adventure and characters who represent the best of humanity had best look elsewhere. The Lost City of Z is a movie about obsession disguised as an adventure flick that (mostly) honors the facts laid out in the non-fiction book of the same name.
The cinematography is stunning, the deliberate pacing and lack of CGI call back to a time when epics could be tense and exciting without being filled with mindless action, and the performances (Hunnam, Holland and Pattinson in particular) are a delight to behold.
Be warned, however, that, much like life itself, The Lost City of Z does not provide all of the answers nor is it particularly interested in definitively solving the 90+ year mysteries of what happened to Fawcett and his son and if they found Z.
Go for the mystery but stay for the performances and stunning visuals.
