Review of The Lookout (2007) by Adam G — 25 Oct 2008
Scott Frank's character-based crime drama is, at times, too left-of-centre for its own good - every character's afflicted with something and it sometimes feels as if Franks is trying to define his characters through their health problems.
Otherwise, The Lookout is a well-structured, stunning-looking thriller with strong performances by Gordon-Levitt, Daniels and an outstanding Matthew Goode. The dialogue is excellent, the cinematography is outstanding for a first time director, and it keeps the viewer gripped throughout, even if it isn't always exciting.
Isla Fisher is really in the wrong film, though, and woefully out of her league.
