Review of The Lookout (2007) by Jess L — 22 Jan 2013
An hour of build up for the 40 minute finale. Normally, I'd be alright with that, but the film was running on 4 stars until the actual bank robbery. At least three conventions too many, lack of suspense, and an overall so-what-Reindeer-Games sort of feeling at the end.
Possibly one gimp too many, at least five flashbacks too many. Come on people, what is this trend with trying to be edgy? This is exactly the type of film film school is churning out. But, hey, the first hour is pretty dang solid.
Maybe Bruce McGill could've taught Scott Frank something from Michael Mann? There's a man who knows how to end a character centric thriller without losing character or thrills.
