Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Paul C — 27 Oct 2007
Hollywood's big screen treatment of the D-Day landings is a long affair, but all the same a brilliant film told from the perspective of all sides - The Allies, the Germans... even the French Resistance.
It is sympathetic to all too, careful not too paint any side with any unnecessary malice. The battle scenes are magnificent, but it is the more quiet, private moments between the officers or the men that make the film so moving.
Featuring an all star cast of 48 international stars and stunningly shot in Black & White, this film stands up against any War film made before it or since. Simply put one of the greatest War films ever made.
