Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Adrian B — 27 May 2013
This war epic tells the tale of D-Day invasion. Spectacular to say the least, as well as admirably ambitious, with producer Darryl F. Zanuck using original locations and an all star cast impersonating the real people involved and telling the stories of the battles but also of the mistakes and massive preparations that make this film also seem like a priceless behind the scenes look at one of the most important events of WWII.
Action packed and fuelled with bravado, the film's only fault may be the lack of significant portrayal of the soldiers' emotional vulnerability, in favour of a more blatant glorification of their heroism.
