Review of The Longest Day (1962) by Jose M — 14 Jun 2011
I finally got to see this classic war movie. I was amazed that it had three directors and showed multiple points of views in the film. It was really impressive to see the intricate details of the Normandy Invasion.
The cinematography in some scenes was amazing, like a shot that follows an enormous amount of soldiers up the beach, knowing that they didn't have any big special effects, makes the scene all the more spectacular.
With a slew of big names including Henry Fonda, Sean Connery, and the Duke himself, whose character broke his ankle landing and told the medic to put his boot back on real tight, has to be one of the best John Wayne scenes I have seen.
There is something to love about Black and White films, something that you cannot capture in modern cinema. It is something that is appreciated time and time again by myself as a film lover and The Longest Day is another essential that's worth the little-under 3 hours to watch.
