Review of The Long, Hot Summer (1958) by Scott S — 05 Oct 2009
THE LONG. HOT SUMMER sizzles. Sparks fly between Newman and bride to be Woodward, whose reticence to like Newman is all too apparent. Filmed in the sultry South, SUMMER is full of cat and mouse play and intrigue.
Orson Welles is superb as Woodward's intemperate father, and Lansbury is interesting as the town whore. All in all, dialogue and action combine to make SUMMER a real barnburner.
