Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Jon R — 29 Oct 2008
L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe faces the most bizarre case of his life, when a friend's apparent suicide turns into a double murder involving a sexy blonde, a disturbed gangster and a suitcase full of drug money. But as Marlowe stumbles towards the truth, he soon finds himself lost in a maze of sex and deceit, only to discover that in L.A., if love is dangerous, friendship is murder.
First I had a problem with the sound and picture quality, it could do with being cleaned up, but then it does give it a gritty feel, just like the story. The plot is interesting, with twists, and Elliott Gould plays a great roll, as a private eye, chain smoking and very cool. Not the best mystery, drama out there, but well worth a watch.
