Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Bill B — 29 Jun 2014
I reviewed this and yet see no review. So, in short: Altman in top form, Gould's best performance, a funny and tight (for Altman) script, and it's all complimented by terrific sharp and stark Los Angeles visuals.
"Philip Marlowe: Excuse me, I don't see any Courry Brand cat food here.".
"Supermarket clerk: Some what?".
"Some Courry Brand cat...".
"Could you spell that?".
"Courry Brand, C-O-U-R-R...".
"Oh, we're all out of that. Why don't you get this. All this shit is the same anyways.".
"You don't happen to have a cat by any chance?".
" What do I need a cat for, I've got a girl.".
" Ha, ha. He's got a girl, I got a cat.".
