Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Forrest K — 23 Jun 2010
A sly, groovy deconstruction of noir tropes. It's far from tightly plotted, but the dazy production and casual disinterest in cohesion can be mostly forgiven for crafting what feels in many ways like a proto-Lebowski.
Altman reimagines the hardedged gumshoe as a hip, affable fellow who quips "It's okay with me" as he floats dreamily through each scene. Not a very good noir, but a fun trip nonetheless.
