Review of The Long Goodbye (1973) by Dave L — 06 Nov 2011
This is a delightfully strange movie. There seems to be always something happening in the background (including exotic yoga dancers). The character of detective Philip Marlowe is a more underground version of James Bond.
He has been played by different actors across decades. This film has interesting moments (the beach suicide and the bottle being smashed into the girlfriend's face) but there isn't enough story here to make this ultimately compelling.
All style and struggling with substance.
