Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Steve J — 09 Jan 2008
When I was a child, you saw so little of contemporary England beamed back at you in the language of film - due to the dominance of Hollywood - that any pronounced UK movie was a treasure. But when said movie comes as potently as this, well, the spell is properly cast.
Worth watching for the last shot alone, as every emotion washes across Hoskin's speechless face, as he speeds towards certain death. Brilliant stuff.
