Review of The Long Good Friday (1980) by Ian C — 05 Mar 2008
Probably the most compelling gangster movie I've ever seen, because unlike other movies in this genre, I had absolutely no idea where it was going - and I wasn't supposed to. Rather than follow the typical gangster movie formula, this one goes the "Whodunnit?" route, and kept me hooked throughout the entire movie.
Even when I figured out the who, I still had to be kept waiting for the why. Solid performances and a solid script also help this movie stand out from other gangster dramas. Definitely a must-see.
