Review of The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962) by Michael R — 22 Nov 2009
In the week that The Blind Side was released, a nice counterbalance can be found in viewing The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. While The Blind Side and other similar flicks draw you in with stories of redemption, often with inspiring mentors from a different world leading the way-- whiter, richer, higher class -- Loneliness will have none of that.
Our protagonist knows his future is insecure at best, is alienated from the world and all authority figures, and doesn't care if you care or not. His only problem as he says, he didn't run fast enough not to get caught.
