One of the defining "Teen Angst" British films, post-"400 Blows" and pre-"Kes", "The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner" is almost the anti-sports movie. It's not about running to achieve a goal, but about a young man running to get away from everything in life.
School, parents, police, society, etc. A very young Tom Courtenay is perfectly cast, no doubt about that. And for the folks who say "Why didn't he?!" at the end, you obviously missed the entire point.
