Review of The Lobster (2015) by Ena M — 27 Feb 2017
If I could sum up The Lobster in one word, it would be "unique". This movie is so different from what anything I've ever seen before. From the setting to the characters, this movie shines.
I like how in the first act, it's nothing but comedy. And this movie is hilarious. I laughed so hard in the theater and I could tell people were annoyed. In the second act, though, it's a mixture of comedy and drama.
While it is still funny, it takes a much more serious and darker tone. And by the third act, it's a super dark, super depressing, totally dystopian and actually kind of scary. Colin Farrell is absolutely incredible in this movie.
The soundtrack also really shines and, like the tone of the film throughout, it changes from this fun, happy sort of song to a dark, depressing one. I think so many people don't like this movie because they don't get it.
And I can see why. Again, this movie is so different and unique that it is a little tricky to get used to it immediately. But I loved The Lobster and I'm giving this one a 10/10.
