Review of The Lion in Winter (1968) by Paul B — 30 May 2010
Classics are generally looked to as beacons of what a "true" movie is, I disagree. A LION IN WINTER had superb actors that couldn't have been more realisticlly cast, but the movie itself was slow. I understand that when a movie is made in the past it tends to be more tuned for longer attention spans, but I can watch a four hour movie, that's not my problem. My problem is that this movie never had any real moments of intrigue. I enjoyed watching Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins and the rest of the cast act, but it took me three nights to watch this because I kept falling asleep, and I rarely fall asleep in movies.
Overall only worth the acting.
